Hosting The
AnimalGolf®
Scramble."
A scramble is one of the
all time favorite team games for outings and tournaments.
Four member teams are the best. But a scramble can
also be played with three or five Players per team. In
a scramble, each team member hits a tee shot and the best
shot is selected by the team. The other team members will
move their balls to the selected drive and all play the
second shot from this location. The best second shot is
selected by the team and the procedure is repeated until the
ball is holed. READY?
1. Each team will keep 2
scores on it's scorecard: It's regular team Round Score
and it's Animal Golf® Score. You'll need
ONE COMPLETE SET of Animal Golf® Game Tags PER TEAM
in your outing. Each team designates their Captain,
a.k.a. Zoo Keeper,
the Player responsible for Game Tag Management and Scoring.
Play is within each team. The Team objective is to
score as low as possible on each hole while also acquiring
the least amount of Animals.
2. In playing each hole, Game
Tags are awarded to the FIRST Player that makes any stroke
resulting in a hazard
or pitfall described on one or more of the Animal Golf® Game
Tags, even if their ball is not chosen for continued
play by the team. Game Tags are accumulated by
each Player individually. There is no tag passing.
Any Animal is counted just ONCE PER HOLE.
3. On the green, The Chicken
is awarded to the FIRST player putting for Par or better
whose ball is on line but just
short of the hole. The Snake is added if the Team
fails to hole the ball within 2-PUTTs. The Skunk is
added for Excessive
Strokes if the Team
fails to at least make Par on
the hole, for in scramble play not making at least Par
is poorly played hole.
4. After the ball is holed,
both team scores for the hole (regular and Animal Golf®) are recorded on separate
lines on their score card. To determine it's Animal Golf®
Score, the team's Zoo
Keeper collects all outstanding Game Tags from team members,
adds them up and then records the total Game Tag
count for that hole, the best being "0", the worst a "12". However,
if the team (1) birdied, or better, the hole, or (2)
holed the ball without it ever first coming to rest on the green, the Zoo Keeper may
record a "0" for that hole. As the team begins its
next hole, all Animals are again available for distribution.
5. Repeat these procedures
for every hole until the team is finished playing its round.
Total both the team's Round Score and it's Animal Golf®
Score. A "0"
is the best possible Animal Golf® team score. To
equalize the teams, outing organizers can multiply any
5-member team scores by 0.8, and divide any 3-member team
scores by 0.75. Organizers can then use these numbers
to rank teams by their Round and their Animal
Golf® scores. The results can be used in many ways:
Common examples have included a special prizes or awards, as
handicaps for a tie breaker, or for prize distribution
order. Be creative.
